AYAZ KHOKHAR, managing principle & ceo

Mr. Ayaz Khokhar possesses over nineteen years of international origination, business and project development, project finance and business operations experience in renewable energy, sustainability, semiconductors, venture capital and supply chain.

Mr. Khokhar is the founder and managing principle of Source3 Energy, is an accomplished business development and transaction leader with record of success in evaluating, structuring and closing complex deals and was responsible for originating and successful acquisition of 1.6 GW of renewable energy projects, while maintaining a pipeline of over 9,000 MW of international projects.

Over the past 4 years, Mr. Khokhar and his firm has closed in excess of $2.1 billion of renewable power and electricity infrastructure transactions. In addition, he has diversified the firm's business scope to broader sustainability efforts including energy efficiency, storage and incubation and advancement of next generation technologies 

Prior to Source3, Mr. Khokhar held leadership positions in Lucent Technologies, United Technologies, IBM (Consultant), Computer Associates, and in startups, including Cloud9 Networks Inc. (CEO) and ICON CMT (acquired by Qwest Global).

He holds Bachelors of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. 

 

IAN SHEPANIK, VICE PRESIDENT, ENGINEERING 

Mr. Shepanik has over 30 years of experience in the electric power and renewable industry.

Mr Shepanik has a working knowledge and experience in most activities associated with the expansion and operation of electric power systems, both in competitive and regulated electricity markets.

Mr. Shepanik has a strong business and technical background, a broad knowledge and experience base in the electricity industry, and makes practical and effective recommendations and decisions with an understanding of the relevant commercial, technical and risk factors.

Mr. Shepnik has supervised a staff of fifteen and have controlled an annual investment and operating budget of $10 to $15 million. Key experiences include strategic and business planning, commercial performance, asset management, new business development, coordination with power trading, risk management, and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Shepanik was also responsible for all commercial, technical and contract negotiation matters relating to a long term purchase of power on behalf of utilities from an independent producer, a contract valued in excess of $2 billion.

Mr. Shepanik is also a Registered Professional Engineer and holds an MBA from University of Ottawa

 

ATIF K. BASHIR, VICE PRESIDENT - BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT& STRATEGY

Mr. Bashir has over 15 years of complex international financial and transaction structuring experience. 

Mr. Bashir is a serial entrepreneurial experience in originating projects power sector, renewable energy, physical trading of coal, supply chain, deal maker, joint ventures, M&A, project financing and business start-up

Mr. Bashir is responsible of over all business development and has spearheaded a pipe-line of over $1B of energy and power generation opportunities in emerging markets comprising of wind, solar, hydro, waste-to-energy, natural gas and coal

Mr. Bashir brings diverse international experience - having worked in the US, UK, Australia and Singapore and covering all aspects of running a business (sales, marketing, legal, operations, technology, finance, compliance, etc.)

Mr. Bashir is currently director of Blacktree investment partners is a London-based hedge fund that brings together principals with exceptional track-records and expertise in the research, development, trading and distribution of macro-systematic & volatility currency trading strategies having previously managed over $1.8b of client AUM.

In addition, Mr. Bashir is also managing director of Matwa group, a firm based in Singapore providing financial markets and energy sector services for unique emerging funds, capital introduction groups, pension funds, and family offices.

ADVISORY BOARD

RICHARD A. ASHBY, ADVISOR

Richard A. Ashby possesses twenty three years of U.S. and international project and corporate financial structuring experience involving over US$ 30 billion of closed transactions in the renewable energy, thermal power, transmission, gas pipeline, LNG, water and solid waste sectors. 

Mr. Ashby is the founder and managing partner of Infrastructure Finance Advisors, LLC, (IFA) is a boutique financial advisory and consulting firm which serves the power generation and energy infrastructure sectors. IFA provides M&A, project development and strategic advisory services, and structures debt and equity financings on behalf of its clients. 

From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Ashby was the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc., a fully integrated renewable energy company that develops, constructs, owns and operates wind and solar projects across the US and Canada. During his tenure at RES Americas, Mr. Ashby and his team closed over $4 billion of M&A, project debt and tax equity transactions involving over 2,200 MW of assets and he played a key leadership role in initiating and managing a significant expansion of the company’s development, construction and operating activities. Mr. Ashby also provided active management oversight over the 10,000 MW development portfolio. 

Prior to joining RES Americas in June 2007, Mr. Ashby was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the North American power generation subsidiary of the Sumitomo Corporation of Japan where he was tasked with expanding the ownership portfolio though greenfield development and M&A activities. 

Between 2000 and 2005, Mr. Ashby held a variety of roles with strategic energy consultant, Pace Global Energy Services providing development, financing, strategic and M&A advice to utilities, independent power producers, governments, hedge funds and private equity investors in the power generation, LNG and gas pipeline and storage sectors. 

Mr. Ashby spent the first ten years of his career developing, advising on and financing power generation and energy infrastructure primarily in Asia and the Middle East on behalf of an energy focused private equity firm he co-founded, a predecessor firm of International Power and the World Bank. 

 

JEAN SAWAYA, ADVISOR

Mr. Sawaya has over twenty five years of Canadian and international infrastructure and energy project development and execution experience.  Mr. Sawaya’s experience ranges from thermal, hydro, nuclear and renewable power to offshore oil and gas.


Mr. Sawaya had for the previous 8 years built and managed the energy projects business from MAN Diesel from a 20 person team to a 90+ person organization first in Canada and then expanding the projects MAN Diesel’s projects business in Germany. As VP of operations and head of projects he focused on expanding and turning to profitability the power generation division.


Mr. Sawaya has worked with notable companies in senior power generation and infrastructure project execution roles such as SNC-Lavalin, Agra-Monenco (AMEC) and Stone & Webster (Shaw Group).  He brings an extensive experience in energy and power generation project development and execution.   

He holds a BS in Civil Engineering and MS Engineering and Construction Management from the University of Southern California and has a management certificate from Oxford (UK) and WHU (Germany) universities.
